Christopher Marinakis
Referral and Clinical Trial manager
Chris completed his Bachelor of Biological Sciences in 2008 where he majored in genetics and microbiology, with a special interest in cancer genetics. In 2011, he completed a Masters of Medical Radiations where he specialized in radiation therapy. As a radiation therapist, Chris designed and delivered complex radiation therapy plans to treat a wide variety of cancers through a number of hospitals including Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Bendigo Health, Western Health, and the Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre.
In 2013, he was responsible for coordinating the implementation of clinical trials within radiation oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Bendigo and continued to drive clinical trial engagement throughout his career. In 2016, Chris moved into clinical education where he was responsible for the delivery of medical education within radiation oncology, often running education programs for medical students, visiting medical professionals, and learners of all levels. Through this collaborative setting, he worked alongside nuclear medicine to further refine many protocols to allow for a smoother transition of care for patients between the departments. This included improving the delivery of radiotherapy specific PET/CT scans to minimize unnecessary medical imaging. Chris has always been a strong advocate of supporting the patient experience in the clinical setting. In 2018, he partnered with the patient advocacy group Counterpart to introduce peer-to-peer emotional support services to women with cancer in the radiotherapy setting at Sunshine Hospital.
Chris now brings this passion to MTIC to further improve accessibility of state-of-the-art services to patients to ensure that every person is empowered to receive the highest standard of care. He will also work alongside the research team to co-ordinate the clinical trial services at MTIC.
