What is Epidermal Radioisotope Therapy?

Epidermal Radioisotope Therapy is a brachytherapy treatment that uses the beta emitting radioisotope 188-Rhenium to treat non-melanoma skin cancers such as Squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) and Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs).

In collaboration with Avion Medical Skin Centres, MTIC will be providing a novel treatment option using Rhenium-SCT (skin cancer therapy) for non-melanomas skin cancers.

The treatment is performed by applying the radioisotope Rhenium-188 as a paste on a foil that is on top of the non-melanoma skin cancer.  After a short period of time (between 30-180mins) the foil with the Rhenium is removed and the patient is safe to go home. The treatment process is painless and non invasive. This new treatment offers an alternative to traditional invasive options and generally only a single treatment session is required.
